Friday Release - Gautham Menon to weave magic in 'Ek Deewana Tha'

New Delhi: The director of 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein', this is the best introduction one can give of Gautham Menon to the Hindi film fans. The master of romantic stories is returning to Hindi films after a span of ten years with 'Ek Deewana Tha'.

The story features a very ordinary 22 year old guy Sachin (Played by Prateik Babbar), an engineering graduate who wants to make a career in films. Sachin's middle class family background doesn't allow him to spend as per his wish but his problems start the moment he falls in love with a conventional South Indian Christian girl Jessie (Played by Amy Jackson).

He has so many issues to take care of, and he simply can't decide which one to tackle first. Sachin is in look out for a way to barge into one of the main film camps of Bollywood but that requires him to wait endlessly. Without any work, Sachin is inclined to do just one thing, and that is to patiently wait for Jessie to appear on the scene.

Elegant Jessy appears carefree but is actually under a lot of pressure from her family. There is absolutely no space for movies, parties and love in her life as her family doesn't approve of these things.

Jessie understands the differences between the social statuses of her and Sachin's background and thus she avoids falling in love with him.

This situation leads Sachin to just think of one question, of all the people why did he fall in love with Jessie?

Critics may have doubts about Prateik Babbar's acting skills but then they need to remember the year 2001 when Menon presented relatively small actors such as Madhavan, Saif Ali Khan and Dia Mirza in the lead roles. Probably, 'RHTDM' is the most memorable Dia Mirza film till date, so he is capable of weaving the magic with small stars also.

The music of 'Ek Deewana Tha' got publicized but for all the wrong reasons. However, the controversy over 'Hosanna' song has fetched the film some attention, plus 'Ek Deewana Tha' is releasing on a date when no other big Hindi film is releasing, which will ensure the film an average opening at least. Afterwards, it will entirely depend on the actors to carry forward the momentum.
